🤔 Lessons learnt
- Signing up and using the product a little doesn’t mean that people really want it. Last week we noticed that out of the many connections we made, hardly any actually caught up. So this week we asked everyone who signed up to opt-in if they wanted to be matched. Out of 45 people, only 2 said yes. Some users were busy, and that’s normal, but one good lesson is that even if people sign up and perform some actions, it doesn’t mean much. It’s easy to fool yourself that things are growing and from time to time you need to “run towards to spike” — which is a gruesome way of saying test out something you’re most afraid of. In our case, this was what we were scared of and it was true.
- When things don’t go well, it’s ok to take a few days off to re-energize. You’re not a machine and can’t keep cranking. The journey of starting a company and building a product is a long one with a lot of disappointments and learnings. So it’s important to take a break when things don’t go as you had anticipated. The reality is that you learnt something and thus have a better understanding of what will not work, inching one step closer to the actual answer.
